Did you know Sutro Baths use to be a privately owned public saltwater swimming pool complex? The baths were built by wealthy entrepreneur and former mayor of San Francisco, Adolph Sutro. the baths were converted into an ice skating rink until 1964 the the property was sold to developers for a planned high-rise apartment complex. Sadly, a fire in 1966 destroyed the building while it was in the process of being demolished. The cause of the fire 🔥 was deemed arson *dun dun duuunnnnnn* The developers ended up skipping town and collecting all the insurance money. Hummm... seems like a pretty good way to get rich! Now the baths (along with cliff house) are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, operated by the United States National Park Service. I’ve you’ve never checked it out, I highly recommend stepping back in time and looking at this beautiful place.
